THREE CAPRICES FOR SOLO PIANO, OP. 11 (1990):
These piano pieces were orphaned almost immediately after their birth by the pianist for whom they were composed. Fortunately, there have been other pianists who have played them and played them well. The Caprices are influenced by a rock sensibility. The Second Caprice is in a polyphonic Prelude-form with a more melodic and unsettled central section. The Third Caprice's humorous and complex motive is constantly varied and builds to a climax three times, with more urgency and elaborate decoration each time.

THREE CAVATINE FOR SOLO PIANO, OP. 12 (1990):
Written for Los Angeles composer/pianist Michael Webster*, the Cavatine are fairly short, lyrical in character, and polyphonic in texture. I made a version of them in 1998 (Op. 12a) for String Quartet that is available in score and parts.
